3D Scanner Glossary Page

3D Scanner: A device that scans and analyzes the geometric surface data of a physical object and then reconstructs this information into a digital model.

Industrial 3D Scanner: A unit that is able to scan the surfaces of large physical objects and recreate this data into a digital model. These usually come in handheld or tripod based design.

Laser 3D Scanner: Uses a laser or series of lasers to scan and triangulate the geometric surface of a physical object. The unit then converts this information into a digital file.

Portable 3D Scanner: This unit is entirely portable, enabling the operator to scan large or small objects at any location.

Professional 3D Scanner: Industrial strength scanning technology which duplicates physical objects into digital models, but with extremely accurate surface details and great efficiency.
